Course Description:
The National Command and Staff College (NCSC), and our parent company
MAGNUS | ONE, offers the “50 Laws of RUSTIC Leadership: Harnessing Weathered Strength to
Lead with Fortitude and Confidence” workshop for responder leaders at all levels.
The 50 Laws of RUSTIC Leadership workshop redefines conventional leadership
development by using valued experiences and demonstrated service as foundational
elements for cultivating the RUSTIC Leader. Rather than adhering to a corrective approach,
the workshop emphasizes recognizing how participants have been shaped through real-
world leadership challenges.
As RUSTIC Leaders, students develop resilience,
learning to adapt and strengthen through their
experiences, which contributes to becoming wiser,
more authentic, and lasting leaders. This seasoned
resilience, when leveraged effectively, enables
RUSTIC Leaders to operate from a place of
cognitive alignment and purposeful energy
application, thereby enhancing their ability to lead
teams and organizations efficiently.
Through an introspective process focused on self-
appreciation and awareness, participants are
guided to build upon their wisdom acquired from
previous experiences. The 50 Laws of RUSTIC Leadership workshop
further advances this foundation by supporting students in developing their capacity as
MAGNUS Leaders, characterized by enduring strength rather than rigidity or vulnerability.
Workshop participants will be guided by a MAGNUS Instructor as they learn transformative
leadership during the following blocks of instruction:
● The Crucible – Leadership growth and development through lessons learned.
● Finding Purpose – Understanding the what and the why of leadership.
● Evolving – Leading with humility, courage, and wisdom.
● Becoming Elastic – Embracing identity and maintaining perspective.
● Worth It – True knowledge and appreciation of self.
The workshop equips leaders with strategies to:
● Apply the proper cognitive stance to perceive, interpret, and react to situations.
● Manage competing demands and the impacts of compounding stress.
● Sustain leadership identity, emotional health, and organizational culture.
● Draw from past experiences to effectively manage leadership fatigue and drift.
● Enhance leadership capacity to produce meaningful outcomes.
● Balance grit with empathy and adaptability.
● Lead without sacrificing communication and connection.

Conclusion:
The RUSTIC Leader forges past experience with purpose.
Law enforcement leaders today face unprecedented demands. Challenges such as reduced
budgets, recruitment, retention difficulties, and declining morale can contribute to
leadership stagnation and inflexible identities among these professionals. This workshop is
designed to cultivate resilient and adaptive leaders who can draw upon their extensive
experience to effectively navigate contemporary challenges.
The program offers a comprehensive and transformative learning experience, enabling
participants to harness their intrinsic strengths while developing the skills necessary to
become MAGNUS Leaders, those who possess the capacity to adapt and remain effective
under pressure, lead with integrity and openness, and continue growing while maintaining
a strong sense of purpose and values.
